About This Home
Own the oldest standing structure in Ozark and the only building in town that predates the Civil War. Built around 1855 by John Weaver, owner of the Ozark Mill, the Historic Weaver House served as a field hospital during the 1862 Battle of Ozark, and the repaired cannonball strike in its chimney is still visible today.
In 1938, celebrated Ozarks architect Don Russell and his mother Lucy restored the home with columns from the Ozark Opera House, arcade light fixtures, his signature spiral staircase, and oak siding from Bull Creek. Today the 1,382 sq ft main house offers 2 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, a completely redone interior, central heat and air, new electrical with buried lines, a bar, two restored fireplaces, a sunroom with over $20,000 in Andersen windows and doors, a 264 sq ft unfinished basement, and two sealed tongue and groove decks.
Behind it, a former shop is now a 1,000 sq ft custom studio cottage with a quartz and cedar kitchen, custom cabinetry, a tub and shower with private toilet room, laundry hookups, its own central heat and air, and a newer roof.
The fully landscaped 0.31 acre grounds include mature trees, a fire pit patio with wrought iron railings, a hidden storm shelter, a she shed, garden beds, a new privacy fence, poured concrete parking, a one car garage, and a two car carport with grilling station.
Zoned C4 Commercial with historic overlay and/or Residential, offering rare flexibility for a private residence, a short term rental, or a commercial venture. Buyer to verify permitted uses with the City of Ozark. Currently operating as an Airbnb, with future bookings and most furnishings and historical items conveying. Steps from Finley Farms and The Ozark Mill.
Own a Piece of Ozark History
1855. John Weaver (1820 to 1899), owner of the Ozark Mill, builds the home near the original Ozark Square, placed so he could keep a line of sight to his mill. Built with nearly twice the lumber of a modern home, it later served as a boarding house and stagecoach stop, directly across from Old Bluff Spring, Ozark’s original water source.
1862. The Battle of Ozark is fought in the valley and on the property. The house becomes a makeshift field hospital, and a cannonball passes through the east side of the chimney. Legend says officers from both sides laid down arms at noon and walked up the hill to share a meal here.
The Baldknobbers. The Christian County chapter met in the north upstairs bedroom. The hood they burned into the floor at one of their last meetings is still visible.
1938. Lucy Russell buys the home, and her son, architect Don Russell, restores it with slate from a Springfield mansion, columns from the Ozark Opera House, and oak shakes from Bull Creek.
Today. After years as the offices of the Ozark Parks Department and now a beloved short term rental, the house is ready for its next chapter.
